Medical examination and other conditions to be fulfilled on first appointment
18.-(1) Every candidate selected for appointment to the public service shall be required to be examined and certified mentally and physically fit for employment in the public service by a Government medical officer.

(2) Every officer on appointment shall be required to-

(a) forward to the Head of Department or the senior officer of his department, the name and address of, and state the relationship with, his next-of-kin and any other persons to whom he wishes information to be sent in the event of his death or serious illness;

(b) furnish to his Head of Department the full address of his residence or any change thereof;

(c) sign in the presence of the Head of Department or the senior officer of his department in the station to which he is appointed the declaration of secrecy as set out in Form A of the Sixth Schedule; and

(d) make a statutory declaration under the Statutory Declarations Act 1960 that-


Act 13.

(i) he does not have any criminal record;

(ii) he has never been dismissed from his previous appointment, if any;

(iii) he is not a drug addict; and

(iv) he has not acquired a foreign citizenship.

(3) Unless otherwise exempted by the State Secretary, a serving officer who has been in the service for a period of not less than one year may be required to fulfill the conditions prescribed in paragraph (1) once again when he is appointed to a new post.
