Tuberculosis, leprosy, cancer leave and other such sicknesses
141.—-(1) An officer who is certified by a Government medical officer to be suffering from tuberculosis, leprosy, cancer or other such sicknesses shall be given the privilege of free medical treatment, including remission of ward charges in a Government hospital during his illness, and be granted sick leave for such sicknesses.

(2) An officer who avails himself for treatment in a Government hospital under paragraph (1) shall be granted the following leave:

(a) sick leave on full-pay-

(i) not exceeding twenty-four months for cancer and leprosy; or

(ii) not exceeding twelve months for tuberculosis,

irrespective of any sick leave the officer may have taken on account of other sickness;

(b) all vacation leave standing to the officer’s credit after the expiry of the sick leave referred to in subparagraph (a);

(c) half-pay leave not exceeding twelve months after all the leave under subparagraphs (a) and (b) have been exhausted by the officer if such officer is still unfit.

(3) An officer shall not, after all the leave granted and approved under paragraph (2) have been exhausted, be entitled to any more leave, except at the discretion of the State Secretary as provided under paragraph (4).

(4) The State Secretary may, after considering the report of the Medical Board in respect of the officer's health, grant additional sick leave on full-pay or half-pay or require the officer to retire from the service.

(5) The leave facility prescribed under this General Order may also be granted-

(a) to an officer who is certified by the Medical Board to be suffering from such other sicknesses that require long period of recuperation; and

(b) to an officer who is receiving medical treatment at a private hospital or from a private practitioner recommended by a Government medical officer and approved by the State Secretary under General Order 267(2).
